'BlueJacket' is a Freedom 40/40 cruising boat that's ready to go. She is basically a one-owner boat that has over 70,000 miles under her keel, and over her life virtually every system has been upgraded.
We have maintained the boat to the point that most people can't believe that she's 27 years young. People are constantly stopping by to comment on what a beautiful boat she is.
She's fast, strong, stable, powerful, and most important – easy to sail. This 1997 Freedom 40/40, designed by David Pedrick and the Freedom Yachts design team, boasts good all-around care, strong updating, and extensive gear.
'BlueJacket' has an amazing amount of storage, two staterooms, has state of the art B&G electronics, Victron inverter/charger, air conditioning, feathering Max prop, electric anchor windlass, 3.5KW NextGen generator, two 112W solar panels with individual controllers, Kiss wind generator, 40 GPH water maker, SSB, Starlink, custom coil spring mattress, UltraSuede fabric and a varnished cherry wood interior.
She has a bullet-proof mainsail which is in great shape, brand new self tacking jib, new lifelines, custom dodger & bimini, cockpit cushions, AIS class B tranceiver, galley cold-plate refrigerator, Harkin electric winch, new batteries, and a 2 year old AB dinghy.
The 2023 survey is available and listed her condition as "Above average condition. Has had above average care and is equipped with extra electrical and electronic gear."
'BlueJacket' is currently sailing in Belize and will be stored for hurricane season at RAM Marina in Guatemala starting in May of 2024. We've stored her there for hurricane season since 2016 and would be happy to share our extensive knowledge of the area and services. The Rio Dulce area is beautiful and is a great hopping-off point for cruising. It's a day-hop to Belize and an overnight to Honduras. From there you can go anywhere.
Accommodations
There are two private staterooms and large head with separate shower. In the salon there are seven stainless portholes, two skylights, and two hatches which provides lots of ventilation, light, and great views.
The forward cabin has a large v-berth with a custom inner-spring mattress and tons of storage.
Aft of the main salon is a private queen stateroom.
On the starboard side of the main salon you'll find a straight settee with a hidden, hinged backrest for back support at the large sit-down nav table.
The port settee is L-shaped and pulls out to convert to a double berth.
A two-leaf dinette table folds down to be out of the way or folds up to seat 6 for dinner.
To the starboard is the main head which is spacious and has its own stall shower.
Aft of the galley is a large queen-sized private stateroom.
The interior has varnished cherry bulkheads and trim with a teak and holly sole. The interior is very bright and airy with 14 opening stainless steel portlights, 5 opening deck hatches, and two skylights.
Galley
The U-shaped galley is open to the main salon, and includes ample counter space, storage, double basin stainless sink, a top and front load refrigerator and freezer, a microwave, and a three burner Force 10 propane stove with oven and broiler. The galley is conveniently located adjacent to the companionway.
Electronics
Electrical
There are two large 8-D Lifeline AGM batteries for house bank and one GR 31 battery for engine start. There are dual battery selector switches for optimum isolation between banks.
Charging is through either a 110A Victron MultiPlus charger, Balmar engine alternator with Balmar smart regulator, (2) 112W solar panels with individual charge controllers, a Kiss wind generator, or a 3.5KW NextGen generator.
Lighting is provided by numerous LED reading, overhead, and indirect strip lights for a warm and inviting ambiance.
The Victron MultiPlus inverter provides 3000W of 120V power for the outlets and the microwave.
Shore power is provided by a 30amp 120vAC shore power system utilizing Smart Plugs and (3) 50' cords.
Mechanical
The Yanmar engine is in very good condition with approximately 5600 hours. In 2022 the engine was removed and broken down to be repainted, ancillary maintenance items, heat exchanger, closed loop water pumps, raw water pump, starter, and transmission underwent maintenance or new seals.
New hoses, thermostat etc. A full list can be acquired from owner upon request. Engine turbo was also rebuilt and some infrastructure items, such and filters, hoses etc were changed.
The engine is located amidships in a well-insulated engine box with access from 3 sides. There is a PSS dripless shaft seal and a Racor fuel filter.
There is a three-blade feathering Max prop.
A Halon fire extinguisher is mounted in engine room. Hot and cold water is plumbed to the head, shower, galley, and cockpit shower. The head has a Y-valve with an overboard discharge option.
A 12 gal hot water tank can be heated from 110vAC element, excess power from solar/wind, or the engine (not connected).
A 120V watermaker using Village Marine components provides 40 GPH of production.
The control panel is completely manual, so you don't have to worry about complex circuit boards failing.
Sails and Rigging, Deck Layout
The mast is carbon fiber with an Antal track/car system for a fully battened mainsail.
The hank-on jib was new in 2024 and has a self-tacking camber-spar. All sail controls lead back to the cockpit so raise, lower, reef, vang, and sheet the sails from the safety of the cockpit. You can easily put in 1 or 2 reefs from the cockpit while sailing. There is a 2-speed electric Harken winch and a 2-speed Harken manual winch. You can easily take the lines on the manual winch and run them over to the electric side.
The decks are wide and spacious. There is an integral anchor locker on the foredeck with electric anchor windlass. The cockpit is tee shaped with a 6' wheel with an elkhide covering. A "walk through" transom provides easy access on and off the boat. The sugar-scoop transom hides a telescoping swim ladder. Double stainless lifelines are extra high and supported by stainless stanchions.
A custom made hard-dodger has Strataglass windows (with installable Sunbrella covers) and substantial handrails on both sides. The solar panels are mounted to the dodger. The dodger windows were replaced in 2023. The bimini has removable side/aft sun-shades and ties into the dodger. All canvas sewn with Gortex thread, which will outlast the material.
The cockpit is huge, and can easily handle 8 people. The table has 2 fold-up leaves and a center drink-holder. A beautiful stainless pole on the port side supports the Kiss wind generator and a motor lift, and the stern pole has an arch for all of the antennas and radar. Large aft lazarettes are used to store lines and fenders.
